domaine de montchenis in burgundy - plenty of space
The Domaine de Montchenis, located in the Parc Naturel Régional du Morvan, in south-western Burgundy, offers recreation and adventure away from the crowds of tourists.
Montchenis covers 62 hectares of very well-kept grounds at the foot of Mont Beuvray, nestled in a lovely hilly landscape. The typical farmhouse was built in the early 19th century.
It consists of a main house, two cottages and two barns. Idyllic nooks and crannies, small ponds, a playground and the romantic bathing and fishing lake offer our visitors many opportunities to linger, move and relax.
bathing and fishing
The natural lake is only a few metres
away from the holiday homes.
It is surrounded by willows and old
chestnut trees in a sunny plain.
The lake's own springs ensure the best water quality.
Pike, carp, perch and roach thrive here.

large holiday home
Integrated into the structural ensemble of the farm, on 120 sqm and over two floors, the holiday house offers plenty of space for eight people in a stylish atmosphere.
The entrance leads into the house via the terrace. The spacious living room is dominated by an open fireplace and a large table. The modernly equipped kitchen is also located in the same room.
On the same level are two bedrooms, one with two single beds, the other with a double bed and a bathroom with bathtub and WC. The upper floor consists of two more bedrooms, each with two single beds and a bathroom with shower and WC. As residents of the holiday home, the entire terrain surrounded by horse pastures is at their disposal for playing, barbecuing and sunbathing.
small holiday home
From the former stable building behind the main house we have created a small, fine holiday domicile. From the large terrace you have an unobstructed view of horse pastures, and endless landscapes. The modern, original cottage offers with 45 sqm, kitchen with cooking island, bedroom with two single beds, sleeping gallery with double bed, bathroom with shower and WC,
and an open-plan, glassed-in living room, it can accommodate two to four people. In winter, a Swedish stove provides warmth.
.
holiday flat
Our holiday flat is located on the upper floor of the main house. Exposed, over century old beams determine the ambience
of the flat. The large, light-flooded living room with dining table, sofa and wood-burning stove gives you a feeling of comfort even in uncomfortable weather.
Through the many windows you can enjoy a panoramic view of the courtyard. In the living room you will also find the kitchen, which offers cooks contemporary comfort. There is enough room for six people in the three bedrooms, each with two single beds. The total living space is 95 square metres. Two bathrooms with shower and WC ensure a relaxed get-up without bottlenecks. The 25 sqm south-west facing balcony is both an entrance and a friendly sunny spot. As guests of the holiday home you can "inhabit" the entire terrain of Montchenis.
horse happiness
Our 12 horses live in herds on our pastures in summer and winter. The species-appropriate husbandry enables our four-legged friends to make horse friends, to be the boss, to go swimming,
to have their backs rubbed or to roll in the dust. in the dust. This and much more is what horse happiness means. A sensitive,
yet consistent tone determines our interaction with our horses.
The training begins with playful ground work, and then later, with the help of simple body language gestures, we train the horse
to be a content partner. The fact that our horses are ridden exclusively with a knotted halter is an expression of our philosophy.
It enables the horse to communicate with the human without stress and fear.
Only by trusting our horses do we give them the opportunity to trust us.
riding à la carte
Book relaxed hourly rides on our well-trained, trustworthy horses, or a half-day ride, with or without an exclusive picnic.
Our guided tours are individually tailored to your needs and riding experience. We also offer all big and small horse-loving
non-riders the opportunity to get to know our horses and to ride hand-guided.
culturally on the road
In Burgundy, one of the great cultural landscapes of Europe awaits you with evidence of Roman times and the medieval kingdom. At the turn of the first millennium, Burgundy was the spiritual and cultural centre of Europe. Unique sacred buildings were erected. Among the most important works of Romanesque architecture are the abbey church in Tournus, the monastery of Fontenay, built in simple beauty, Cluny, the centre of spiritual power at that time, the basilica in Paray-le-Monial or the cathedral of Vezelay with its extraordinary sculptural decoration. And of course Autun, where Gislebertus once created the famous Eve,
the first female nude in European sculpture. If you look north from Montchenis, you will see Mont Beuvray, where the Celtic tribe of the Haudians founded a "big city" called Bibracte. Today there is a remarkable archaeological site with a museum. But also cities like the lively commercial metropolis Dijon, Beaune and its world-famous hospice or Chalon-sur-Saône with many cultural highlights can be reached quickly from Montchenis.
pure nature
The Parc du Morvan is one of the largest contiguous nature parks in France. The sparsely populated, rural low mountain region is untouched by the signs of industrialisation. Over 3500 km of bridle paths and hiking trails lead through a landscape
that has remained unchanged for centuries. In spring, the landscape, criss-crossed by countless watercourses, enchants
the eye with yellow broom blossoms and white sloe hedges. In summer, the dense, unspoilt deciduous dense deciduous forests shade the hiker.
In autumn, his basket is filled with delicious mushrooms. Sundew and rare orchids have survived in the moors. Ospreys, kingfishers and grey herons take up residence at the streams, ponds and lakes, where fish, including rare ones like lamprey
and bullhead, cavort.
activities
The Domaine is the ideal starting point to discover the lovely countryside of the Morvan. on foot, in the saddle or by bike.
Even demanding mountain bikers can expect some challenges. Visit picturesque weekly markets, experience festivals in the surrounding area in summer, prove your courage in the high ropes course near Chalon-sur-Saône, or play a sporty
game of golf in Autun.
A fun day at the amusement park "Le Pal" is sure to make the whole family happy.
we
Stefan Mauz has lived in Burgundy for
42 years. His path led him from southern Germany via Berlin and Paris to the Morvan. Here in Montchenis he was able to realise his dream of living and working with horses.

Beate Freudig worked for many years as an art director in Freiburg and Cologne before moving to France.
Thanks to her creative talent and her love of detail, a charming property was created in Montchenis that guests are reluctant to leave. In 2004, his daughter Nora joined him, and she too loves horses above all else.In the meantime, Stefan Mauz has rediscovered the art of woodturning. He creates magnificent bowls, plates, mills and much more from a variety of woods.
... and others
Over the years, our dear guests have left behind true works of art in the Montchenis books.
chargemoments
Did you know that the Morvan is a very special place in France ? Far and wide no artificial light, no industry, no fine dust, hardly any cars, no noise. The Parc du Morvan is one of the cleanest regions in the country. So constellations and cloud plays come into view in a particularly impressive way. But there are also other vantage points.
